Benissa / Costa Blanca Nord
Benissa is the oldest and prettiest of the inland towns of the area with small coves between cliffs, and beautiful mountainous countryside. Here the sea and the mountains come together to create stunning landscapes. Although Benissa is located inland, it also has 4 kilometres of beautiful coastline. Basically here you have everything you need: views of the Mediterranean, the weather, wild nature, the quality of the light and the towns’ architecture. The area is ideal for holidays all year round.
The town is small, but enchanting with its medieval architecture and charming squares. The houses of 17th and 18th century were magnificently restored, so taking a stroll around Benissa's perfectly conserved Historic Centre is a true pleasure. Ironwork balconies and heraldic shields decorate the historic buildings that line the narrow streets of the town.
The stretch of coastline between Calpe and Moraira is home to a number of quiet relaxing bays. Whether they have sand, gravel or pebbles, they all enjoy crystal clear waters revealing the marvellous, rocky sea beds so appreciated by diving and sailing enthusiasts. . The scenery is magnificent; spectacular rocks contrasting with the high mountain backdrop. From many points the emblematic Peñon can be seen.
Playa La Fustera is a blue flag beach of fine natural sand dominated by the majestic meadows of Posidonia oceanica (sea-grass) that reign over the seabed and equipped with all the facilities that the public demand.
The Baladrar cove is a lovely gate to the Mediterranean with pine trees leaning out towards the blue sea.
The little beach of Cala Els Pinets is south-facing and made up of small pebbles. You can take part on an excursion from there (on foot) to a magic place called "Mar Morta i Roques Negres", which means Dead Sea and black stones. It’s a small shallow inlet of sea.
Cala Llobela is the smallest and most savage bay of them all; the pine trees reach right down to the sea and little pebbles form the beach. It’s an ideal place to practice diving in its clear waters. With gravel and boulders, it is a rustic and very little frequented creek at which enjoying the pleasure of bathing practically alone.
In Cala Advocat beach there is the breakwater, where you can moor your sailing boat. There is a small jetty used to anchor sailing boats along the beach. Fishing from the breakwater is very popular here.
Crystal clear waters are the perfect setting for water sports such as scuba diving, sailing, windsurfing and kayaking. Hiking is another activity available here.
In Club Hipico Benissa (Partida Senijola 2) you can book horse riding lessons. The Club has got beautiful horses and very experienced teachers. It's the perfect place from beginners to advanced riders and the hack through the local countryside is a must.

If you are a fan of Golf, there are many fine challenging golf courses in the area.
Club de Golf Ifach is situated only 2 km away from the bay of Moraira. On several holes a panoramic view opens to the sea.
Try the Seve Ballesteros designed championship course at Oliva Nova.
Melia Villaitana Golf Club is in a privileged location in the tourist coast of Levante. Has two courses designed by Jack Nicklaus.
Altea Club De Golf s located in the municipal limits of Altea, a Mediterranean village famous for the beauty of its historic quarter and the distinctive natural light.
Things to do
Don’t miss Medieval Historic Center, that definitely worth a visit. There are many pretty cobbled streets and steps and behind every corner there is something else to see and marvel at.
Calle Desamparados is a very good example of the medieval character of the historic neighbourhood.
You must take some time out to visit the lovely Cathedral de la Marina. Built in the neo-gothic style, the cathedral was only finished in the 20th Century.
Purissima Xiqueta Parish Church, nicely restored in beautiful white stone with a wonderfully done lighting. This is a great visit to combine with an evening stroll through the town center of Benissa.
Galeria de arte Georgie Poulariani. Definitely drop in and see his latest sculptures. Great to look around the stunning art works and fascinating to meet the artist in his workshop.

The local cuisine is dominated by the bounties of the sea. Also presented excellent rice dishes and cured meat.
Casa del Maco (Partida Pou Roig 15, Benissa) Mediterranean restaurant with gastronomic food and an very nice wine card. The restaurant has a partially covered terrace with tables extending out towards the view of the coast and the Peñon de Ifach.
To have dinner a beautiful location of Yacht Harbour with a nice view on Calpe from the terrace, try Oceana Club (Avenida La Marina, 333)
For a finest dining with ambience and the view book Orobianco (Urbanizacion Colina del Sol, 49 Calpe), restaurant with a Michelin star. It will surprise you with its creative cookery with strictly attention to tastes.
To get there
Benissa is located towards the northern end of the Costa Blanca, just off the A-7 Motorway via Teulada end Benissa; the trip to and from Alicante airport takes just over one hour. It can also be accessed from the Calpe in the south via the N332
